Are you a conservationist with a passion for nature and animals? Then you will love Zanzaibar’s Zala Park.
Zala Park is a small nature reserve not far from the more famous Jozani National Park. Park Ranger Mohamed Ayoub, also a local schoolteacher, established this reserve to educate the children of the community about the importance of protecting endangered species.
Respected and recognized by his community, Mohammed has done a terrific job building and maintaining the park, and educating locals and tourists alike about Zanzibar’s indigenous wildlife.
Among the animal species you can see are snakes, geckos, lizards, chameleons, tortoises, crabs, the little dik-dik (a type of gazelle,) bush-babies (a primate,) and hyrax (a rodent-like mammal.) You will also find many fruit and spice plants including orange, lime, grapefruit, nutmeg, banana, ginger, chili, black pepper, and cinnamon.
Our expert tour guides will take you through this valuable eco-tourism project. While walking nature trails, they’ll tell you about the local animals and plants. Tourist fees support the local Mungooni community and its school.
Also, you can visit nearby mangroves, enjoy the sunset, and meet people from the village.
You won’t forget your visit to this exceptional park.
